Ruger introduced its Ruger 10/22 model in 1964 and today there are more than 5 million in existence. It is a semi-automatic rimfire rifle with a 10 round rotary magazine designed so that it sits flush with the bottom of the stock of the rifle. Today there are a handful of different configurations for the Ruger 10/22. Stocks are available in laminated wood, hardwood and synthetic materials. The Ruger 10/22 is popular with small-game hunters and for consumers looking for a rifle that uses inexpensive ammunition. This rifle has also been put to use by the Israel Defense Force since 1987, mainly for their military to use.

This is "the" gun to get for beginners! Accurate and fun to shoot. Shoot all day and have a blast hitting spinners poppers whatever you want.
I have owned a Ruger 10/22 for about a million years now. I've shot it a lot, but usually my wife gets her hands on it and I shoot something else. I think they are a bit "crimpy" [my word]. While I'm not a really big dude I just don't like the feel of the thing. It's too small and I've never had much luck with that rotating magazine. I much prefer an old Model 34 Remington, or my favorite, a Marlin 139. I'm trying to ween myself from auto .22's. So I'm shooting a lever, bolt or even an old Winchester pump.
Now I have to admit that I'm a little jaded since I bought one of those 10/22 mags a few years ago. It is/was a horrible rifle. I spent about $500 trying to get the trigger fixed and after two gunsmiths I just put it down. I don't even know where it is, probably in the back of a closet somewhere with my old moth eaten uniforms.
Probably the best gun you can buy at Wal-Mart!
The 10/22 is the most iconic of all .22 rifles. Its accuarate, dependable, and will eat up any ammo you give it. Ther are also countless aftermarket accessories to trick out a 10/22 how ever you like. If you are looking for .22 autoloader, I highly recommend the Ruger.
