Overview
The Beretta 92FS is a 9mm, semi-automatic pistol variant of the Beretta 92 series manufactured by Beretta of Italy. The 92FS is issued to members of the Iraqi Armed Forces and other variants of the Beretta 92 are used by the United States Armed Forces and other world-class police and military forces in harsh environments around the world.
Specifically the 92FS has many advantages and design implementations to weather this pistol against the severe conditions frequently encountered in military applications. Starting with the earlier 92F, Beretta has included a larger, more open slide, allowing for smoother ejection of spent catridges and easy clearing of blockage. Along with these hard chrome barrel resists corrosion and other damage due to water and other elements.
The FS also designed to protect the user from injury with a locking pin mechanism that stops the slide from pinching your hand in the event of breakage under heavy use. These applications make the Beretta 92FS ideal for support and severe-duty environments where comfort and reliability are of utmost importance.

I bought mine in 1985 or so when they first came out, and I have been shooting it ever since. I don't really remember what it was like when I first got it, but now after tens of thousands of rounds it is as smooth as a baby's butt. Very accurate, and so easy to take apart and put back together. Cleaning is a breeze.
I recently replaced the barrel with a match grade stainless from BarSto. Still breaking it in, but the gun feels much tighter. Needs another 500 rounds through it before I have a real opinion.
The 92FS is a great handgun. Sure, it's a little heavy, but that weight reduces felt recoil to almost nothing. It's a sturdy, rock-solid platform that's been used by the US Military for almost 25 years now. While magazine capacity could be larger, it's a product of its time. The 92FS is my favorite 9mm pistol to shoot.
Even my wife, who has small hands can get a good grip and achieve tight groupings with the 92FS.
I am a big fan of the frame/grip style and dimensions that are very 1911 feeling. Cleaning is a breaze as takedown is as simple as can be. The sights are large white dots and are easy for the eyes to use.
On the negative side, the gun holds far fewer rounds (12) than should be for a larger gun. It should easily hold 15-17 rounds.
